When is the festival taking place?
Dublin Theatre Festival takes place between the 26th September and 13th October 2019. We rely on support from volunteers during those three weeks of the festival. Sometimes we may need volunteer support outside this time frame.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
By volunteering with Dublin Theatre Festival you could develop new or existing skills, gain experience in a variety of areas associated with a large festival, meet new people, see some performances, and have lots of fun!
What does Dublin Theatre Festival expect of me if I volunteer?
Due to the busy nature of the festival we expect volunteers to be reliable – to turn up for volunteer shifts and to arrive on time. As our volunteers act as representatives of Dublin Theatre Festival it’s also really important that you are friendly, approachable and respectful.
What types of volunteer roles are available?
Dublin Theatre Festival offers a great mix of volunteer roles so you can pick and choose depending on your experience, availability and interest. The volunteer roles available are: market research, ushering/programme selling, market distribution (such as posters, programmes, leaflets), deliveries in the City Centre, front of house/stewarding (event assistance), and box office support.
Can my travel or accommodation expenses be covered if I volunteer?
Dublin Theatre Festival is not in a position to cover travel or accommodation expenses for volunteers.
Will there be any training for volunteers?
All volunteers are provided with a mandatory induction session before the festival begins. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the festival team, hear more about what’s involved and ask any questions you may have.
How many volunteer shifts are required?
Selected volunteers must commit to at least three shifts during the festival period. We’d love it if you could volunteer for more – there’s always a lot to do! Volunteers may also be needed to help out for more than one shift per day!
How long is each volunteer shift?
Volunteer shifts are maximum 4 hours long. However, many volunteer shifts are less than this. Each selected volunteer is issued with a shift card and notified of their time commitments in advance.
Can I volunteer if I’m less than 18 years of age?
Dublin Theatre Festival can only accept volunteers who are over 18 years of age.
As a volunteer, do I get to see any performances?
Volunteers will have the opportunity to receive tickets for up to three selected performances during the festival. Three completed shifts entitles entry to three shows. Unfortunately we cannot offer more tickets for any shifts in addition to this. Please note that owing to venue agreements we will not be in a position to offer volunteer tickets at all venues.
How do I apply to be a volunteer?
You can fill out an online application form and return, via email to our Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org / post this to our office and our Volunteer Coordinator will review your application. You should hear within 2 working days if you have been invited to volunteer at this year’s festival. Please bear with us if we are late getting back to you!
Am I guaranteed a place as a volunteer?
We aim to take on as many suitable volunteers as possible. However, due to to high demand we cannot guarantee that there will be a place for every volunteer that applies. As a result, we may be limited in the number of volunteers who can be involved in this year’s programme.
