Over the next four years, Dublin Theatre Festival will participate in Be SpectACTive!, a large-scale European cooperation project – co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. Through this project, for the first time, invited members of the public will play a role in choosing productions to be part of the festival programme.
Be SpectACTive! aims to foster the idea of participation and active citizenship. Groups of active spectators will work closely with arts organisations, including festivals and venues in 15 different cities across Europe. These Active Spectator Groups will each select productions to be presented in their city over the duration of the project.
The aim is to develop new creative processes of experimentation across cities and countries to achieve a more inclusive and trans-cultural Europe. The anticipated outcome of the project is a stronger relationship between citizens or audiences and artists across the European continent.
Dublin Theatre Festival has recruited 20 people between the ages of 18 and 25 to form our Active Spectator Group and they will work alongside our Artistic Director and a facilitator to engage with the programming of Dublin Theatre Festival.
